This is Kathy Granger, Superintendent of the Mountain Empire Unified School District. I want to give you an update on the water situation at Clover Flat Elementary school.
On Tuesday the school was notified of elevated levels of bacteria detected in 2 of five samples taken during a routine water quality test. We immediately switched to an alternative drinking water source.
County officials believe that the elevated level of bacteria is due to unusually high water temperatures in the storage tanks which is due to current weather conditions. To eliminate this problem the district will be installing a new pressure tank in the pump house to directly pump water out of the well to the school for drinking purposes. This will be done before the students return to school in August.
We will only use the water in the storage tanks for fire suppression. It will not be used for drinking purposes.
The District remains concerned for the health and safety of our students and staff. If you have questions or concerns please contact the District Office at 619-473-9022.
